Rule of Law The Fifth Amendment right to show defence and â€Å"all pertinent grounds of important value to that defense† was non violated because the â€Å"return of the belongings is non a defence to embezzlement. Deceitful purpose is an indispensable component of peculation. Although Restoration of the belongings is non a defence. grounds of refund may be relevant to the extent it shows that a defendant’s purpose at the clip of the pickings was non deceitful. † Analysis Since Martin Sisuphan was authorized to pull off the funding contracts and obtain payments from loaners on behalf of the suspect the case was effectual. It does non count that there was no purpose of stealing the money because Section 508 ( of the California Penal Code ) states: â€Å"Every clerk. agent. or retainer of any individual who fraudulently appropriates to his ain usage. or secretes with a deceitful purpose to allow to his ain usage. any belongings of another which has come into his control or attention by virtuousness of his employment is guilty of peculation. † KeepingThe issue is that Susuiphan intended to utilize the money for a intent other than to which the franchise entrusted it to him. therefore the grounds that he returned the money before condemnable charges were filed is irrelevant. The judgement is affirmed. Plaintiff was sentenced to 120 yearss in detention and 3 old ages of probation.

The 23 SAT Tips and Tricks You Must Use

The 23 SAT Tips and Tricks You Must Use SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Studying for the SAT is a big undertaking, and you might not know where to start. A good way to get yourself into gear is to learn about the structure of the test and different ways you can adapt your strategy to improve on each section. In this article, I’ll provide you with a comprehensive list of the top 23 tips (broken down by section) that you should be using to get your best scores ever on the SAT. Overall SAT Study Tips Tip 1: Eliminate 3 Wrong Answers The most important rule to remember for the SAT is that there is only one correct answer for each question, and you should be able to eliminate all the others. This means that your number one strategy on the test is process of elimination. If you're struggling with a question, try to find reasons to rule out most of the answers rather than reasons why certain options could work. Learn to be extremely picky about which answers to eliminate. This especially applies to the Reading and Writing sections. If a question seems subjective, keep reminding yourself that it’s an illusion. All incorrect choices are incorrect for good reasons, and it’s your job to find those reasons until you narrow your answers down to one possibility. Tip 2: Always Understand Your Mistakes This is vital if you want to see dramatic improvements. If you take the time to understand each mistake you make on practice questions, why you made it, and what you will do to avoid it in the future, you’re virtually guaranteed a good score on the test. Mistakes usually fall into one of four categories: #1: Content weakness#2: Time pressure#3: Question comprehension issue#4: Careless error After you finish a practice test, catalog all the questions you answer incorrectly so you can work on detecting error patterns. Did you consistently answer a particular type of math question wrong (content weakness)? Did you keep missing the words â€Å"except† or â€Å"least† (careless error) in questions? Did you consistently miss questions at the end of sections (time pressure)? Whatever your issues, you have to understand them completely so you can fix the problems you’re having and see positive changes in your scores! SAT Reading Tips Tip 3: Pay Attention to Connotation and Context This tip is critical for answering tough questions in the Reading section. Look for words that indicate positive or negative connotation in the part of the passage that the question references. This can help you to eliminate at least a couple of choices even if you have no idea which of the remaining choices is correct. Context is also very important! Don’t just look at the exact line that is referenced in the question- look at the sentences around it too. Look for contrast words such as â€Å"however†, â€Å"rather than† or â€Å"still†. You should also pay attention to strong adjectives that might help you to determine connotation. Positive or negative connotation- you decide. Also to whoever made this image: I think we know what thumbs up and thumbs down mean. The faces are overkill. Tip 4: Use Find the Evidence Questions to Your Advantage The new SAT has questions that ask you to choose an excerpt from the passage that serves as the best evidence for your answer to the previous question. These new questions can help you tremendously in identifying mistakes and clearing up ambiguities. For example, say you've picked out two answers that you think could be correct for a reading question. If the next question asks you to identify the best evidence for your answer, you can read through all the options the find-the-evidence question gives you and see which choice most directly connects to one of your two potential responses for the previous question. In almost every case, it will become abundantly clear which of the two choices is correct because only that one will have a corresponding tidbit of direct evidence tucked away in one of the answer choices for the find the evidence question. Tip 5: Read Passages Strategically Try to nail down a good passage reading strategy for the SAT before test day. This will save you time and stress later. There are a few methods you might use depending on how comfortable you are with the test and where you are in your reading comprehension skills. Method 1: Skim the Passage First This is the method I would be most inclined to recommend. You can get a sense of the main ideas of the passage without wasting too much time reading it closely. To skim effectively, just read the introductory paragraph, conclusion paragraph, and first and last sentences of each body paragraph. Answer main idea questions first while the overall point of the passage is still fresh in your mind. Then you can read specific sections of the passage more closely as needed to answer questions about smaller details. Method 2: Skip Straight to the Questions Because the SAT gives you line numbers for questions on the Reading section, skipping the passage altogether can be an effective initial strategy. If you do this, you should answer questions about small details in the passage first, so you end up reading a bit of the passage while answering questions. Then, when you move on to main idea questions later, you’ll already have a solid sense of the message of the passage as a whole. Method 3: Read the Passage in Full If you’re both a quick and thorough reader, you might be able to pull this off without any problems. Just make sure it’s not slowing you down. There's more material to read on the new SAT, so this strategy might be less feasible than it was in the past. If you're reading this way and find you can save a few minutes (and not lose any points) by using one of the other methods, then you should do that instead. It’s always better to have extra time at the end so you can double-check your answers! Tip 6: Don’t Ignore Passage Introductions At the beginning of every passage on the SAT, there is a little italicized blurb giving you a bit of context about the passage and its author. This introductory blurb contains valuable information, and if you skip it, you could miss out on easy points. At the very least, passage introductions give you context for what you’re about to read so you aren't too confused about who’s who or where the passage is set. Even if your method of attack for SAT passages is to skip straight to the questions, you should still make a point of reading the italicized intro before you do anything else. Tip 7: Get Interested in the Passages If you want to retain information as you’re reading passages on the SAT, the best way to do it is to force yourself to engage with the material. Treat this as a learning experience, not a chore, and you’ll find it much easier to remember what happened in the passage. If your brain is in â€Å"wow, interesting† mode rather than â€Å"blah, blah, just have to get to the questions† mode, you’ll have a more pleasant experience on the test and a better time answering the questions overall. Tip 8: Look for Direct Evidence Though questions on SAT reading may sometimes seem subjective, the reality is that you should always be able to find direct evidence in the passage or chart you are referencing to support your answers. Even inference questions, which ask you to look beyond the literal facts in the passage, will be backed up by logical deductions that can be made from the evidence that is presented. For inference questiosn especially, you might end up looking beyond the sentence referenced in the question to find the evidence you need. But the evidence is always in there somewhere! If you’re thinking about choosing an answer that seems like it could be correct, but you can’t find any evidence for it, hold off. Any answer that can’t be backed up by specific information in the passage has to be incorrect. U on the SAT irl SAT Math Tips Tip 9: Focus on Filling Content Gaps First If you have problems with basic math skills, it doesn’t matter how many practice SAT questions you do- you’re going to have to fix those knowlege gaps before you can improve your SAT Math score. If you notice you’re missing practice SAT Math questions because you are uncomfortable in a certain content area, work on your content weaknesses before you do anything else. This is the fastest way to improve your scores dramatically. You can go from here to fix other types of mistakes that are more surface-level (such as reading questions wrong or basic carelessness). Tip 10: Re-Solve Questions You Missed Before Looking at the Answer Explanations This is the best way to make sure you truly understand how to solve questions you initially messed up on the Math section. It’s one thing to read the answer explanation and say â€Å"oh, of course, that’s how you solve it," but it’s a completely different matter to work out the problem yourself. The process will stick in your mind much better if you go through it, rather than if you just read about it. Look at what the correct answer choice should be and try to get there yourself before you read the explanation. Tip 11: Underline Key Parts of the Question You should use this tip on the math section if you've been missing questions by accidentally solving for the wrong value. Underline what you need to find in the question so you don’t get confused during the calculation process. Sometimes math questions ask you to solve for a value that necessitates solving for something else along the way. That something else will often be one of the incorrect answer choices (though this sort of tricky incorrect answer choice is less likely to show up on the new SAT). Many students accidentally pick the trick answer choice because they lose track of the value that they were originally supposed to find. You can avoid this by underlining relevant parts of the question to maintain your focus. Tip 12: Memorize Formulas Although the SAT math section does provide you with a list of formulas, you’ll lose time and momentum by constantly turning back to reference them. It's best to have all the formulas memorized beforehand. Check out our article on the formulas you need to know for the SAT Math section to make sure you’re prepared. You can use a calculator for half of the Math section, but if you don't know the formulas, it's not going to be much help. SAT Writing Tips Tip 13: Memorize Grammar Rules The SAT Writing section has a specific standardized approach to grammar, so it’s useful to memorize the rules to reduce confusion. Even if you think you're pretty good at grammar, it’s not always enough to just go by what "looks right" to you. If you’re not used to some of the more archaic grammar rules tested on the SAT, you should memorize them. This will prevent you from accidentally choosing NO CHANGE for phrases that have errors according to the SAT's formal grammar guidelines. Check out this article for a review of all the grammar rules you’ll see on the SAT! Tip 14: Be Careful with NO CHANGE Answers If you notice that you’re answering NO CHANGE for lots questions on the Writing section, you should go back and double-check your answers. NO CHANGE will only be the answer for 25 percent or less of the questions where it's an option. If you’re choosing it more than that, you might be missing something. Be sure to verify it again before you commit. On the flip side, you also shouldn't be overly worried about choosing NO CHANGE. It will inevitably be the correct answer a few times, so don't get too caught up in second-guessing yourself. Tip 15: Skim the Paragraph Before Answering Rhetoric Questions Unlike grammar questions, which only require reading through a couple of sentences at most to answer correctly, rhetoric questions challenge you to examine entire paragraphs or the passage as a whole to find the right answer. Examples of rhetoric questions are questions about sentence function, the logical sequences of sentences, and the author's style and tone. The SAT mostly sticks to asking Writing questions chronologically, so you'll likely find yourself answering several grammar questions about specific sentences, followed by a couple of rhetoric questions that relate to the paragraph as a whole. Don't be lulled into complacency and think you can answer rhetoric questions just by reading through the specific sentence the question asks about and using vague memories of the content of the other sentences you just answered grammar questions on. Instead, skim through the paragraph as a whole and then attempt the rhetoric question. Tip 16: If Both Answers Are Grammatically Correct, Pick the More Concise One One of the skills SAT Writing tests is conciseness, or the use of as few words as necessary to convey meaning clearly. Being able to answer concision questions correctly requires knowing not just what the grammatically correct choice is, but which is the best grammatically correct choice. This might be daunting, especially if you're not a native English speaker, so we recommend following this tip: if both answers are grammatically correct, choose the most concise one. Here's an example of a real SAT question with multiple grammatically correct answer choices: One of the artist’s most famous images showed Tweed with a bag of money in place of his head. A) NO CHANGEB) famous and well-knownC) famous and commonly knownD) famous, commonly known Answer choices A), B), and C) are all grammatically correct replacements for "famous" in the question sentence. So which one is correct? By following the rule of choosing the most concise answer, we can rule out B) and C) to arrive at the correct answer, A). Note that the correct concise answer isn't always going to be the shortest (even though it was in this case); it's the shortest answer that preserves the meaning of the original sentence. In this case, "famous and well-known" and "famous and commonly-known" are both wordier and redundant ways of saying "famous," so there's no reason to change the sentence. SAT Essay Tips Tip 17: Analyze, Then Write Essay prompts on the new SAT ask you to analyze an argument presented in a passage. The graders want to see that you fully grasp the author's point and can write a clear explanation of how he or she builds the argument. You have fifty minutes for the essay, and you should spend a good 10-15 minutes making sure you understand exactly what the author is saying and how you'll outline your essay based on your analysis. Tip 18: Use Specific Evidence Don't just describe how the author builds the argument in your own words; prove your points with specific examples. When you're first reading through the passage, underline sentences or phrases that provide evidence of the author's persuasive techniques. Direct quotes should be used in your essay to reinforce the most important points. Using the evidence at your disposal, you will prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the author committed the crime of having an opinion. SAT Test Day Tips Tip 19: Get Ready the Night Before On the morning of the test, you'll inevitably be nervous. There's a lot of stuff you need to bring to the SAT, and you don't want to forget something at the last minute while you're distracted by your nerves. Here's a checklist to ensure that this doesn't happen: Admission ticket Photo ID #2 pencils and eraser Calculator We also recommend that you bring snacks and water as well asa watch to monitor your pacing.Just put everything in your bag the day before. Don't procrastinate! Tip 20: Skip Difficult Questions This is a key tip if you struggle with time pressure on the SAT. If you're having trouble with a question, skip it and move on before you waste too much time. Lingering on hard questions could cost you easy points if it means you’re not getting to questions later in the section. For the Math and Reading sections, don’t spend more than a minute trying to figure out each question. For the Writing section, don’t spend more than 30 seconds. Circle any questions that you skip so that they’re easier for you to pick out when you go back through the section. You might find that after you’ve answered the rest of the questions, you’ll feel less pressure and be able to think more clearly on questions that initially stumped you. If you still can't figure out the answer, take a guess! The new SAT has no guessing penalty, so it's always better to guess than to leave a question blank. Tip 21: Bubble at the End A good way to save a few minutes of time is to fill in all your answers at the end of the section. Circle your choices in your test booklet as you go along, then go back and bubble them in when you’re done with the section. With this tip, you’ll avoid going back and forth between your test booklet and answer sheet, which is not very efficient and adds a few seconds to your time for each question. Make sure you only use this strategy if you already know you're capable of finishing the section with at least 3-5 minutes to spare! It would be terrible to answer all the questions in your booklet and not have time to fill in your choices on the answer sheet. Tip 22: Double-Check Your Answers While it's tempting to take a rest if you have extra time at the end of an SAT section, you should always double-check your answers first. When you initially make your way through each section, circle questions that you’re unsure about so you can double-check strategically. If you have lots of extra time, you might even go through and check every single one of your answers. This way you’ll pick up on any careless mistakes you might have made if you were rushing or missed a key word in a question. Always double Czech. Tip 23: Stay Calm Above all, keep a cool head on the test. If you see a question you don’t understand, don’t let it psych you out. Just keep going. You might need to skip some questions at first, and that’s ok. Though there is a lot of pressure to finish each section on time, there's nothing wrong with doing the questions out of order. Look at each section with fresh eyes, and try not to dwell on what you might have gotten wrong earlier in the test. Review In this article, I've given you 23 of our best tips for success on the SAT. Human Biology Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Human Biology - Assignment Example It has been analyzed that the onset of the disease begins by the fourth decade of the life in an individual and by the sixth decade of life, 80 percent of the people will present with this pathology in any single joint of their body (Robbins et al 2005; Sharma et al 2007). Many changes occur in the human body with the increase of age. The reduction in the working and efficiency of the muscles, reduction in the force of the muscles as well as reduced capacity of movement production are age related muscular changes. Changes in the ligaments also take place with age which includes decreased strength as well as elasticity of the ligaments. The ligaments and the muscles serve the purpose of providing steadiness to the movements of joints. These changes alter the mechanical nature of the joints and hence are associated with osteoarthritis as they result in decreased capacity of the joint to adapt to weight and stress and hence damage to the cartilage of the joint occurs with strain. Furthe rmore, muscles also tend to reduce the shock from affecting the joints and hence reduced muscle functioning also leads to damaging the joint. These damages may be associated with the accumulation of inflammatory cells within the joint cartilage (Conn 2006; Forceia et al 2000). The cartilage of the joints is made up of collagen type II, proteogylcans and glycosaminoglycans. The cartilaginous tissue also consists of water. This structure of the cartilage assists in the free movements of joints and serves to distribute the weight in a proper manner. But with age, the functional and structural capacity of this tissue reduces. This leads to damage to the tissue with stress and again predisposes to osteoarthritis. With aging, the water content of the cartilage also increases and the supportive structures which include collagen and proteoglycan also tend to reduce. The damage to the joints results in the presence of inflammatory cells within the joint (Robbins et al 2005; Forciea et al 200 0) Osteoarthritis is a condition which presents with tenderness in the joints and difficulty in the movement of joints in the morning. It is believed that the process of the disease early but it presents with symptoms at a later age. The joints which are mainly affected are the knee, hip and the joints of the finger. The disease usually does not affect all the joints of the body but is limited to a few joints (Robbins et al 2005). Osteoporosis is a pathological disease of the bones of the skeleton. It results due to a reduction in the mass of the bone which makes the patient susceptible to fractures of the bones of the body. Ageing is considered to be a very important and primary cause of this disease. The fractures that result due to the decreased bone mass are associated with 1 million cases of fractures in the United States annually (Robbins et al 2005). Changes in the structure of the bone tend to occur with age. The density of the bone becomes reduced and changes with change. O n an annual basis, every normal individual loses 2 percent of their bone density. Thus the minerals of the bones tend to reduce with age making the bones weaker and more susceptible to fracture. This accounts for an osteoporotic change of the bone (National Institutes of Health 2004). Cellular changes occur in the bones as well with age. The bone forming cells which are referred to as the

Business Management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 4000 words

Business Management - Essay Example The present discourse is an in-depth evaluation of operations management from a strategic operations management perspective. Hence, establishing a link between operations strategy and corporate strategy will help in analyzing how and what competitive priorities are chosen by organisations. Further, key management functions such as planning, controlling, coordinating, and leadership are applied to operations management. These aspects of operations management are studied taking the example of the Toyota Production System. Operations refer to all the activities performed by an organisation in order to produce products or services. Management of these activities directly related to the production of goods and services is termed as operations management. For example, activities related to banking, transportation, shipping, and manufacturing of goods or products such as automobiles, food items, textiles etc all constitute operations management (Chase Jacobs & Aquilano, 2005). ... roduction, planning and designing production processes of goods and services, and also effective integration of marketing, finance, human resources management and strategy which facilitate the business to enter the market and also compete with both new and existing organisations in the market. In other words, operations management helps the firm to establish itself and also provide operational capabilities that promote its success and sustainability. Operations management involves complex processes that are interdependent; the core processes involve capacity planning, supply management, inventory management, quality and efficiency, technology and systems and human resources management. Theoretical aspects of operations management in manufacturing and service industries constitute a combination of three distinct functions, strategic functions, tactical functions and operational planning and control functions (Chase et al, 2005). The main management functions such as planning, organisi ng, controlling and leadership are applicable to operations management. Main operational processes in operations management include planning, production, purchasing or inventory management, supply chain management, distribution and marketing. All operations functions are strategically aligned to its larger or strategic business goals. Thus, operations functions are designed based on strategic decisions that match the organisational strategies (Heizer & Render, 2008). These strategic decisions are referred to as operations strategies. These strategic decisions define the conditions in which operations will be carried out in short and long terms. Operations strategies are the total pattern of decisions which shape the long-term capabilities of an operation and their contribution to overall

Design in 21 Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Design in 21 - Research Paper Example Steve Jobs also grew up in a period where there was freedom of expression, in America, and when the culture was very tolerant and open. In college, the favorite subject of Steve Jobs was typography. He was able to make a connection on how fonts were able to influence the contents of a design and their audience. Steve Jobs spent most of his years studying the philosophies of eastern nations, and their holistic values (Shea, 11). These values are all manifested into the product philosophy of Apples, through its production of a seamless, sleek, simple and integrated design. The first product made by Apple that was able to change the field of design is the invention and the design of the Macintosh computer system which had a Graphic User Interface (GUI). This computer system was introduced in 1983, and it was meant for designers (lumenthal, 23). This system came with an input device and a mouse which would make it possible for an individual to allow computer drawings, and accurate cursor control. This system also came with a MacPaint, MacWrite and other fonts which allowed designers to lay out pages that they could print. On this basis, this design by Apples ushered in a new period of Desktop Publishing. This completely changed the field of design, by ushering in, the era of digital design (Shea, 33). On this basis, the computer systems that were using Apple’s GUI became a standard system for all computers that were being manufactured worldwide. The demands of GUI enabled computers were very high, and they revolutionalized the design world whereby the digital artist had a new media platform that could help him or her to create and design products (lumenthal, 22). Following the successes of these Macintosh computers, Steve Jobs and Apples separated for a period of ten years. Steve Jobs pursued his business interests by developing computer software’s that were able to be used in the fields of animations. However, after ten years, Steve Jobs was able to

HRM is not managed using the traditional approaches anymore. Rather, the increased use of outsourcing has created the urge for building up new and innovative ways to manage the workforce in today’s workforce. It calls for comprehensive and thorough strategies to respond to the contemporary issues of globalization and diversity. Role and Importance of Strategic HRM 1.1 Strategic HRM Strategic HRM is known as the preventive management system of the employees in an organization. More elaborately speaking, it is a technique of managing human resources that brings a strategic outline to upkeep long-term business objectives and outcomes. There are three major theories of strategic HRM used in today’s HRM. Like many other companies, CIT also uses these theories into application. Universalist Approach: Also known as Best Practice Approach, this theory assumes that high performance output in an organization can be achieved via a set of HRM practices. These practices are described in a set of four policy goals- Commitment: Confirming the faithfulness of employees to the organization so that they provide with their best of performance. Strategic Integration: The integration of the HRM to the company’s strategic planning so that HRM can be a part of company’s overall strategy should be ensured. Moreover it should also be ensured that the line managers use HRM strategies in their everyday work. Quality: The fact that employees should always be kept satisfied and motivated in order to bring out their optimum performance so that they can deliver products and of the highest of quality should be ensured. Flexibility: Today’s workforce seek out flexibility in their workplace. Administration should ensure this aspect in order to keep the staff driven enough to deliver the maximum productivity. However, it is to be noted that Guest believed all of these theories shall work only together, and not individually, to attain the company objectives. Fit or Contingency Approach: HR plans and practices must be coordinated with the organization’s plans and practices for the maximum performance to be produced. This synchronization of HR and Company strategies can be labeled as the â€Å"vertical fit†. This approach is also known as the â€Å"best fit approach†. The best fit approach:The best fit approach supports that HR strategies and organizational policies have to be aligned. There are three available simulations of this best fit approach- Lifecycle model: Organizational development is done in four stages Start-up, Growth, Maturity and Decline. The HR department should be well aware of the company’s ongoing stage so they can select the correct strategies to match up the company’s current stage. Strategic configuration: In this model it is said that companies can be on the operative front if they can implement tactical configuration policy (market-type structure or internal type structure), coordinated with company types (namely Defenders, Prospectors and Reactors, Analyzers), and (classified as; Machine Bureaucracy, Divisionalised form, Simple Structure, Adhocracy Professional and Bureaucracy). Best fit and competitive strategy: three competitive strategies are; Quality, Cost-Leadership and Focus (Niche). Companies should adopt competitive strategies in order to maximize performances. This is more important because of the increasing competition in today’s business world. It is always better to have a competitive edge and to use that edge in the best way possible. The Configurationally Perspective: This model deals with the importance of the outline of several HR policies and in what way these outline of HR policies (independent variables) affect the Organizational performance (dependent variable). The term configuration is explained differently by various scholars and writers for two reasons. The first one being â€Å"the scope to which HR policies are associated into an overall HR structure† and the second one- â€Å"the notch of fit amid an overall HR structure and an administrative type†. 1.2 Importance of HRM In CIT, HRM is perceived as one of the most consequential drives of the corporation. HR management’s significance can be classified into the following subsequent activities: Enrollment and Training: Recruiting new people and training them as per the organizations’ needs are the key responsibilities of HRM. To fill up the vacant position in the organizations, HR managers plan test and trials for potential candidates. HR also fixes the terms and conditions of the contract that takes place between the employee and the organization. Performance Evaluations: HRM prompts the workforce to bring out their finest performance. It provides with feedbacks to the employees that creates a proper communication between the employees and the employers. Nourishing Work Atmosphere: Work ambiance is a crucial aspect for employee satisfaction and high level of performance. HRM manages to maintain a decent, safe and clean working environment for its employees. The performance of the workforce largely depend on the work atmosphere and company culture. So, HRM strives to keep up the best possible work environment for its staff. Handling Disputes: Inner disputes and conflicts among colleagues is a very common element in organizations. It is always the HRM’s duty to mediate in such situation so as to resolve such clashes and therefore establish an order in the workforce. While it’s important to take care of the disputes in a fair manner, the HRM must also be very cautious in handling such cases as sometimes, the methods can easily create employee displeasure. Increasing Public Relations: Developing public relation with numerous interested parties and stakeholders of the organization is a vital role played by the HRM. HRM stands responsible for organizing meetings, seminars, workshops etc. to interconnect with these parties. In some cases HR department even helps into business and marketing planning. 1.3 Analysis of different Frameworks of HRM The Harvard Analytical Framework for HRM: Produced by Beer et al. (1984), is a good equilibrium between the Universalist Approach and the Fit Approach. CIT relates this model in its HR management. This framework works on the conjecture that the problems of managing employees can be explained when the general managers of the company have their own perspective about how they want the employees to be involved in the company and what sort of policies are best for this method. Ulrich’s Multiple Role Model: Ulrich et al. (2009) proposes a multiple competency framework involving of four potentials for HR mangers other than recruiting, training, and motivating. It is specified below: Figure 2: Ulrich’s Multiple Role Model HR roles are demonstrated in this framework into two axes. The horizontal axis designates the leading focus of HR—either Future Strategic or Day to Day Operational, and the vertical axis indicates leading actions of HR, either process and systems or people connected. These two axes form the four qualities of HR- Strategic Partner, Change Agent, Employee Champion and Administrative Expert. CIT’s HR managers ponder in these features with attention. 2. Formulation Implementation of HR Strategies 2.1 Analyzing the Strategic Human Resource Process Strategic HR Process can’t be constructed of any single approach, it can always vary between organizations. CIT uses a specific model for Strategic HR process that encompasses of the following key facts: Structuring the strategic course: When the HR policies are backed up by the company’s mission, vision and objective, this process is constructed. In CIT, the entire HRM process is established by concurring the company leaders’ long term objectives. So the entire process of recruitment, training, motivating and additional processes are planned to achieve long term company goal. Developing the HRM System: Since CIT is an IT based firm, it allows its employees to work from home by using internet. Also, CIT believes in creating variety in their workforce in lieu to which they are engaging female employees in definite positions. Planning the total workforce: Defining the essential future workforce depending on the company’s progress and necessity is a very challenging activity of the HRM, especially now-a-days. Producing the required human resources: The key focus of this process is to recruit, contract, organize, formulate and convey staffs grounded on the tactical provisions of the management’s workforce strategy. Dedicating to HR progress and performance: HR development process marks on the growth and use of business proficiency and the cooperating elements, all of which lead to a thriving organizational performance. A good encouragement program for the employees should comprise a mix of base pay, bonus, profit share, priority in company share etc. in overall. (Robert C. B., 2003). Evaluating and supporting managerial aptitude and performance: Basically, there is no exact approach to precisely measure the changes in HR policies or how performances affect the company’s output. This can be overcome by the usage ‘balance scorecards.’ 2.2 Roles in Strategic Human Resource Management The strategic roles of top management, front-line management, HR executive, HR specialists are the ones that sums up the roles of strategic HRM. Their roles in CIT are described below- Strategic Part of Top Management: The long term business goals of the company are set by the idealistic leaders of the company- the ones who forms the top management. This set consists of the CEO, CFO and President. They ensure the concurrence of the company growth and objectives with those of the individual departments. Strategic Part of Front-line Administration: According to Eduardo Salas et al (2001), front line managers ‘bring HR policies to life’. This means that if the managers are against a new HR strategy, it would be problematic to device the strategy which will gradually lead to dissatisfaction among employees. Tactical Role of the HR Director: Because they are the part of the top management, the HR Directors hold a great position in the strategic planning. They ensure the integration of HR policies and tactics with overall business goals and supervise the implementation of those plans. Strategic Part of HR Authorities: HR executives have various tasks like new preparation programs, performance management, granting employees, improving the work atmosphere etc. therefore, at any given point, they should work on a priority basis. 2.3 Development of HR Strategies There is no single way to advance HR strategies. For example, CIT uses the six step method proposed by Gratton (1999): Figure the superintendent association: Comprising people from all parts of the professional. Envisaging the upcoming: Building a shared idea for the regions of strategic prominence. Identifying present abilities and pinpoint the gap: Assessing the company’s present point and analyzing the break between company’s upcoming goals and current condition. Shape a map of the system: This is done to safeguard the small stages taken can be expressed into a whole plan. Model the refinements of the structure: All possible future results should be taken into account to evade any unexpected change or uncertainty in the strategic plan. Bridge into action: Involving line managers, creating guiding principles, forming cross-functional collections to recognize objectives and performance devices. 2.4 Implementation of HR Strategies HR strategies implementation can always vary from organization to organization, it has no perfect model. CIT practices the following tasks to implement HR policies. Supporting employees to understand the strategy: Employees must have the proper understanding of the ‘what and why’ of the policy to actually execute it in the workplace. A failure to comprehend the company policy properly will prohibit the employees from using their full level of talent to achieve company objective. Improving employee responsibility to the strategy: It is always known that change causes disharmony. Any kind of modification in strategy can easily cause displeasure among employees. Employees must be given the understanding that accepting the current change will lead to a better outcome. Reforming local work with the strategy: The proper understanding of the strategies by the employees is not always enough, it must also be executed by dismissing off-strategy works and starting on-strategy works with new vigor. Generating inter-departmental assistance: Creating bridging relation among the employees of different subdivisions is always a little challenging because of their different work nature. Activity 2 3. Contemporary Issues in Strategic HR Management 3.1 Identification of Contemporary Issues Affecting Strategic HRM Strategic HRM is mostly affected by the following issues- Job Stress: The adverse reaction that people tend to show when they’re incapable of coping up with the pressure and atmosphere of work can be defines as Job Stress. It can lead to illness, absenteeism, low efficiency rate, frustration, personal problems etc. Work-Life Stability: Everyone is always busy in today’s competitive corporate world. The use of advanced technology allows employers to engage employees in work even after office hours, via internet. Diversity: In any organization today, people from diverse backgrounds come together to work. Globalization has become a major issue in today’s HR management. Downsizing: Many companies are economizing their workforce due to recent economic recession, as a measure of cost cutting. 3.2 Analysis of Contemporary Issues Affecting Strategic HRM The increasing challenges in HRM management are forcing today’s organizations to consider strategic HRM in a different way. Recruitment procedure is now a two-way approach. Employers can use a resume record or ‘corporate poaching’. Because job switching has become a very common issue today, keeping employees, specially the most adept ones, motivated and satisfied is becoming much tougher. Even CIT has not been able to keep a hold of many of its most capable employees. So, they’re now forming new strategies to keep their staff driven. Activity 3 4. Assessing the range of HR Strategies its Application This section discusses different types of strategies in HR and their application in business organizations. 4.1 Range of HR Strategies The ranges of HR strategies include different tools. The ones used by CIT are discussed below: Strategies for improving organizational effectiveness: Concrete leadership from the upper management. A strong management team. Continual pressure to renovate and expand. Ability to react fast to opportunities and threats. Strategies for Learning and Expansion: This ensures the correct training of the employees in order to achieve organizational goals. This is related with housing a learning culture, encouraging organizational knowledge, providing for individual learning and launching a learning organization. Strategies for Performance Measurement: Performance Management â€Å"carries a mean of joining business strategy and technical assembly to direct the whole organization to achieving mutual organizational objectives† (Purcell et al, 2005), it delivers the best means to attain organizational goals. Strategies for Employee Relations: Here, the intents of the organization about what is required to be done and what is needed to be altered in the customs in which the organization maintains its relationships with employees and their trade unions is explained. It is to be noted that employee policies are different than strategies. Strategies are dynamic. 3.2 Application of HR Strategies CIT attempts to achieve its organizational goals by applying all the strategies defined above, including resourcing strategy and reward strategy. It can be quite impossible to measure the exact amount of return these applications of HR strategies bring; nonetheless, there are some indicative measures that can help us towards greater understanding of the impact of change in HR policies. For example, if the workforce management program has been integrated properly with the company’s goals and company is performing well, it can be said that we are getting good return on HR strategies. Another example of good HR outcomes is found on Michael Armstrong et al (2006) research reports on hospitals which decreased mortality rate by creating efficient HRM. Conclusion It can be concluded that human resource management is one of the crucial activities in today’s organizations. No workplace can be run proficiently without correctly trained and motivated employees. And with the increasing globalization today, proper Human Resource Management is becoming more and more challenging.

Lysistrata :: essays research papers

Aristophanes play Lysistrata takes place during the Peloponnesian War and the women of Greece are tired of their men being at war. Greek women want to preserve the traditional way of life in their community. With this in mind, Lysistrata calls all the women of Greece together and devises a plan. She argues that if the women all participate in two activities, their men will end the war. Her proposals are that the women hold a sexual strike against the men. She urged the women to dress in sexy clothing but refuse sexual activity with the men. The second part of her proposal is that the women take over the acropolis. The old women are to do this first, while the younger women are having the strike. In order to accomplish this, the women challenge the masculine role model. They take on masculine characteristics and attitudes and defeat their men physically, mentally and above all strategically. By portraying the opposite sex, the men are better able to view themselves, leading them to think more about their role and importance in the community. Men are a vital part of a stable environment and have many responsibilities to their wives, family and society. The women make it clear to the men how they feel when they are abandoned, with no sex, no company and no support. This proves that neither side benefits from war; just that one side loses more than the other side. Fourth century B.C. Athenian women would get distressed when their men went to war. Most Athenian women married in their teens and never had to be on their own, and probably wouldn't know what to do if they did land on their own. The men leave for war and some do not return mostly because of death. This creates hardship for the widow who finds herself on her own, most likely with children, and no one to take care of them anymore. The widow has few prospects. If she is young and attractive enough with the right domestic skills she might be able to remarry. But her situation is not too promising. After all, why would you want a widow, when you could get a "fresh" wife to "break-in" the way you want and start a family from your own seed? At the time, women were property. They were something beautiful to own, look at, and kept around to fulfill sexual needs.

Personal Adult Life

The purpose of this paper is to explore my personal journey through adult development, while incorporating Erikson’s 8 stages of developmental theory. It will take you on a brief introduction through my childhood up to my young adulthood. Touching on some of the trials and tribulations I have encountered and how they have contributed to my resilience’s. How my life’s journey has caused influenced my desire to obtain a career in criminal psychology Concluding, with the goals that success in grad school will help me attain in the remainder of my life.Life is filled with many twist and turns, up and downs. It is up to us the individual what we learn along life’s journey. People will come into our lives and help guide and changes us as well as the lessons, trials, and tribulations we all encounter. Although we have no control over fate, we do have power over our â€Å"driving skills†, and could thus widen or narrow our chance for a smooth, prosperous jo urney. It is beneficial to remember that we are not alone and that we all take this journey into adulthood.Most prominently, no matter how harsh the terrain of the road becomes, we just have to remember that we will pull through and be transformed for the better because of it. I believe that it is my optimistic philosophy that I’ve adopted which has been much solace to me in my own journey in becoming the level headed young woman I am today. It was not at all easy. However, I have been blessed with a great support system and environment. My childhood I learned a lot and matured faster than most of my friends. During what Erikson called the play age 3 to 5 my mom gave birth to my little brother. I wasn’t too happy about this.It is during this Learning to initiative vs Guilt this is where Erikson believed the healthy developing child learns to imagine, through all sorts of fantasy, cooperate with others, to lead as well as follow, fearful and continues to depend on adult s and is still restricted both in development of play skills and in imagination. (Erikson, E. H. , 1963). At first I wanted to try and hid my brother in the closet. My mom said I had a pretty good imagination and a ball of a good time with myself but I also made friends very easy. One of the hardest times in my life occurred two weeks before my 11th birthday.My father was killed. This is during Erikson’s stage known as School age, where he believed it is during this time where children learn to master the more formal skills of life. Such as relating to peers according to rules, progressing from free play to play that may be elaborating structured by rules and may demand formal teamwork, mastering social studies, reading and the necessity of homework. Erikson stated that the child who trust because of his successive and successful resolutions of earlier psychosocial crises is trusting and autonomous, and full of initiative will learn easily enough to be industrious (Erikson, E . H. , 1963). I had a hard time with this because my friends had both of their parents around and I couldn’t understand why I had my father taken away from me.The following year wasn’t that much easier for me. 2 days before my 12th birthday my mom was involved in a serious car wreck and was almost killed During Identity versus role years age 12 to 18 I went through a great deal of things. This stage Erikson believes that a successful early adolescence aquires self certainty as opposed to self consciousness and self doubt. During this time clear sexual identity is established and develops a set of ideals (Erikson, E. H. , 1963). You could say that this is where I really learned that life will keep throwing things at you and you have to learn how to roll with the punches. Starting off with my mom’s wreck at 12, at the age of 16 I was in an abusive relationship and was raped by my boyfriend at the time. My abuse, for example, had brought me much self-loathing, but then I realized I was able to get out and get out alive and this is where I really made the choice where I refused to be bullied in to silence and allow others to make me a victim. I felt each time I fell; I was obliged to obtain strength in order to rise.Thus each time I rose, I was a little stronger than before. During young adulthood 18 to 35 Intimacy & Solidarity verses Isolation I have done my most growing of finding out who I am. Erikson believes that during this stage The successful young adult, for the first time , can experience true intimacy- the sort of intimacy that makes possible good marriage or a genuine and enduring friendship. (Erikson, E. H. , 1963). I dated a guy who is actually my best friend now for seven years, we moved to Vegas and then realized things were not going to work.I wanted to focus more on school and eventually the family life but I gained a great friendship out of the seven years together. I met some of my best girl friends during these years. Vall iant added a stage which he calls Career Consolidation this is where he insists that adult education should help adults live better. He felt that educators help guide learners in better life style directions through education and counseling (Vaillant,G.. & Mukamal, K 2001). I personally have to say that I agree and have always been taught early on that an education is something that no one can take away from you.While during this stage of my life I have had some serious health problems. I have had cyst removed from my left breast which they later found out were in the beginning stages of cancer. I have had to have my gallbladder removed and found out that I have Celica disease. The one positive trait that had proved to be highly efficient in boosting me out of these pits is ambition. I know that too much of it could corrupt a person, but so far it had only empowered my spirit with much-needed optimism.My greatest ambitions is to become a criminal profiler or help start a victim†™s voice program and help counsel abused women; therefore every hardship and pain to me befits an inspiration a way for me to be able to connect with others and their hardships. It has been my optimistic perception of things, that have succored me through my many phases of emotional turmoil. Although this journey had been difficult and even toilsome at times, I pulled through. One of the merits that I have acquired from my past experiences is strength.Strength in mind and spirit is like steel, and the most sublime of its quality can only be heated through suffering each . Another lesson that I’ve learned through my journey up to this point is to appreciate all that life has to offer. Life is short, and my road could abruptly come to a halt at anytime. Thus it is prominent to savor each and every moment of it by focusing on the positive things. My struggles and desolation have procured me to value what I have in order to overcome depression. My family, friends, and other for tunate events in my life have been lights in times of darkness, eminding me that the world is not completely forlorn and bleak. Optimism, along with strength, is all that I need to carry on. And thus I go forth on this journey with the memories of all the people and places I’ve left behind. I know that as long as I possess a goal, I will never be lost. My goal is to become a successful graduate student obtaining my Masters in Psychology with specialization in Criminal Justice and Victomology. I hope to maybe one day work with the FBI and possible become a Criminal Profiler. It had been a most arduous but rewarding journey. My friends and family, especially my father, had made this journey much easier†¦All of these allies and resources have presented me with guidance in the right course. The bumps and craters that I’ve met along my journey held a large role in constituting the person that I am now. I have fallen so many times into the seemingly abyss of despair and struggled against the mirror for just a speck of self-esteem, but I have survived. I understand that there will be greater obstacles and barriers in the future, but I personally believe that pain is a thing to be prized. Someone who does not know pain would not appreciate joy, nor would he obtain the strength to make his journey worthwhile

He Worlds Largest Company Essays

He Worlds Largest Company Essays He Worlds Largest Company Essay He Worlds Largest Company Essay Apple Inc. He worlds largest company, which had introduces a serious of consumer products during the past years. Apple managed a global supply chain with creative development in the United Stated. The outsourced manufacturing of Apple Inc. Is in Asia and components sourced from suppliers around the world. With its development, the stock of Apple was increasing continually. This situation was clear to Jessica that Apples product range would get more complex in the next few years. Therefore, she wanted to take a look at the companys supply chain (Mark, 2014). The content of this paper includes the description of Apple Inc. The new product development, how the company manages the global supply chain and its supply chain security. This paper will focus the analysis on the compliance in supply chain management and some issues about security of Apply Inc. Supply Chain Planning New Product Development Company reviewable is a brand that we are familiar with. It is an American multinational corporation that designs and manufactures consumer electronics and computer software products. The companys best-known hardware products include computers, the pod and the phone. Apple software includes the Mac SO X operating system and the tunes media browser. Besides, Apple provides customers who are professional musician that a suite of professional audio and a suite of audio tools (Mark, 2014). According to the news of Apple, for the full-year results, Apple generated a massive $171 billion in revenue and $37 billion in profit. Why Apple has been widely successful? Firstly, its distinctive advertising campaigns. Apples advertising always full of creative ideas and inspirational. Secondly, its philosophy of comprehensive aesthetic gives us a deep impression. Furthermore, Apple has established a unique reputation in the consumer electronics industry (Mark, 2014). New Product Developmentally chain planning at Apple is the classic example of new product development. Its the integration of R;D, Marketing and various functions under supply chain management. As we know, the high technology products always have a short product development cycle. Apples phone lifestyle was closer to one year. The time period between phone 4, phones, phone and phones launched almost one year. So the innovation and creativity play a significant role in Apple Inc. The researchers in Apple should come up the new ideas continually to catch up customers steps. From the case, the new product development department in Apple coordinated a wide variety of stakeholders, including internal groups such as hardware, software and production. Apple preferred the entire supply chain internally to control instead of outsourcing its manufacturing to third- party supplier (Mark, 2014). The distance between designers and suppliers in Apple is closely. Unlike other electronics manufacturers, they might use the outsourcing for the entire production, management and their supply chain to a third-party service provider. On the contrast, the designers in Apple even spent months living out of tool rooms in order to be close to suppliers and manufacturers. They intended to help to adjust the process of industrial. During this process, when the designers came up the new ideas and need to change, the manufacturers can get the information at the same time, and then complete the final products. The creative designing department of Apple is in California, where Apple developed the new technologies. At meantime, Apple put forward the idea that makes full use of acquired technology firms, whose products could be used in Apples development of products and services. Besides of that, Apple conducted improve the market research ND product testing to refine the upgrade being considered. Apple put the cost data together includes a list of parts and names of suppliers. In this condition, the potential quality defects were identified and decrease the risk (Mark, 2014). Apple s technology competitors typically have separate R;D departments and separate profit and loss accountability for each product segment. For this management, the manager cannot focus on one thing. In contrast, Apple was highly integrated. It has the centralized R;D and accounting for the entire company. The centralized organization makes the entire company become a whole part. This can be easy to control and managers could find and solve the problems timely. If one department has requirements, another organization will follow up new methods. It was an effective strategy for Apple Inc. After the supply chain planning, Apple Inc. Needs to manage its supply chain and improve its security supply chain to solve some risk issues. Apply Inc. Global Supply Chain Management and Security Supply Chain According to the textbook, A supply chain is Just that. It is a chain of interconnected links that facilitates the movement of supplies, or in other words, cargo, goods, material, products, etc. (Airway, 2010). An effective supply chain management is an important step that needs to be taken by companies to increase the profits and avoid making mistakes. Apply Inc. Is the technology company belongs to the U. S. However, the supply chain of Apple is global. Apple gathers the research and development base in the United States. Besides, it has 156 suppliers, assembly operations in China and retail stores in its supply chain. During the management, there are many security issues will occur. The following content will introduce some key parts of Apples global supply chain, including procurement, manufacturing, logistics and detail experience to explain how Apple Inc. Solves security issues combine the supply chain management. Prestidigitations to the case, the key components of Apple products contained were often sourced from single and stable manufacturers. The reason is that the different mobile phone firms often used the same components. Due to the huge volume of products, the materials form popular suppliers were out of stock sometimes. To counteract this potential risk of supply chain issue, Apple was required to make sure the steady supply of key parts by procuring parts from suppliers production capacity in advance of need. Furthermore, in order to achieve cost targets and supply assurance, Apple had a program that allowed it to buy capital equipment for suppliers (Mark, 2014). It is an effective method to make double insurance for Apple and its suppliers. Apple purchases the sourcing of materials and normal components are from various suppliers in different countries. The main countries are United States, China, Other Asian countries and Europe. All main components for the Apple products are manufacture in the United States and exported to other countries for assemble final products. The United States is not only he worlds largest electronics consumer base country, but also the main market of Apple products. It has too many opportunity and customer demand. Europe is the best development mainland in the world. This country has advanced transportation such as railway and waterway. It is very convenient for Apple to purchase material and components. Apple want to make sure of its security supply chain. So Apple considered the country that has the high technology companyJapan. The components from Japan always have high quality. It makes sure the quality of material. Overtime, Apple established a formalized list of expectations for suppliers ND developed relationships with suppliers. It helps Apple expand the scale operations to increasing the customer demand for existing and new products. Moreover, Apple makes full use of its deep pockets to place high volume pre-orders with suppliers in order to ensure the profitable production capacity. This strategy can prevent competitors from get the same manufacturing resources. The sourcing is so important for the supply chain, so Apple Inc. Make sure the sourcing is never shortage. The authors analysis report shows that the motivation behind the addition of a new supplier is to diversify supply chain risks. The advantage of additional new supplier will provide a greater flexibility to Apple. In addition, Apple can make faster react to supply chain disruptions. However, there might be a potential security issue will be appeared. The new supplier maybe has safe and ethical manufacturing practices. For example, the new supplier provides the materials that have toxic element or it maybe damage the environment. Apple needs to be in a position to sever ties with any supplier that does not comply with its Code of Conduct. If the new supplier does not obey the ethical rules, it may lead to some potential problems, such s pose a threat to the quality of sourcing. Therefore, a good procurement is a base of supply chain management. ManufacturingAccording to the textbook, Many clients have or own their own plants, mills, etc. And ship to their own places of manufacture or assembly, or ship to their customers who utilize that material (Airway, 2010). After Apple Inc. Purchases raw materials from various sources then get them shipped to an assembling plant in China. Foxing is an original design manufacture for clients such as Apple, Sony and Black Berry. Foxhounds headquarter is in Taiwan, it was the rods largest electro nics manufacture with too many employees in 2012. In addition, Foxing has factories in Asia, Europe, Mexico and South America (Mark, 2014). Why Apple Inc. Has sent the components and materials assembled in China? The common reason is China has cheaper labor cost and the environment relax. Besides that, Apples executives think the foreign workers flexibility; diligence and industrial skills have outpaced the American workers. The labor cost in China is lower than America. Although Apple has put the labors environment and benefit in the first place, this many occurred a security problem about the materials during the assembly process. Labor is an important element during the supply chain security. They provide the service and benefit for company. It is the responsibility for company to treat them well. The personal safety concerns the security issues of supply chain. There was news before 2009 that it claims that Apple used the materials that include toxic chemicals from its supply chain. Both poisonous are still in use at Chinese factories. According the case, almost 137 workers at an Apple supplier in China were exposed to the toxic chemicals. When they assembled the product, they inhaled the toxic substance into their lung. As time passes, after two years later, some workers felt their health getting worse and worse. They wanted Apple to help pay for treatment. When this situation happened, the process of manufacturing will be delay and the companys reputation will be ruined. In addition, the company will lose much money to compensation. To solve this problem, Apple bans two chemicals from product assembly and concluded the more safety alternatives will be excised. Moreover, the two chemicals also ban use as cleaning agents in the final assembly recess. Apple Inc. Pays more attention to recover this security issues. In June 2014, Green America with some organizations wrote a letter to Apple, and let Apple know the chemicals must be more transparent at its manufactures. Furthermore, the groups also asked Apple to create a fund to treat factory workers who have injured for making Apple products. There is another event that Apple should pay attention. According to Apples supplier responsibility progress report, the standard labor policy of company states that workers maximum working time is 60 hours per week and to get at least one day off per week. And yet, more than 50 percent of their workers of its suppliers exceeded these low limits. The employees have too much pressure when they work. In fact, working conditions at Foxing, Apples partner for final assembly and some core components, have been bad enough that Apple has gotten a bit of reports of accidents, suicides, and labor strife (Mark, 2014). This condition was too bad for one Technology Company. Apple has been working to improve labor conditions throughout its supply chain, including improve workers salary and better oversight over the factory conditions. Apple must focus on this issue and avoid it room happening again. Apples Green Supply Changing the supply chain management, a significant issue cannot be ignored, which is environment protection. Due to Apples manufacturing factories usually in China, where the labor cost are low and environment standards are lax. So Apples Supplier Code of requires that during the manufacturing processes, they should put the environmentally responsible in the first place. There is question, how does Apple really know that contract manufacturers and their suppliers meet such requirements? Apple Inc. Really adopted measures to let them meet these requirements. Apple says it audits all of its suppliers, and that this information is made public on its Web site. Then summarizes those auditing efforts to its company reports. Here is an example from the case, Apple representatives physically inspect manufacturing facilities, talk with senior management, and even conduct confidential interviews with randomly selected employees from the line (Mark, 2014). As mentioned before, Apple used the environmentally sourcing instead of sourcing with toxic chemicals. That was one of the effective methods to recover this issue. This measure help Apple earned more petition and increase responsibility to employees. Logistics logistics is an integral part of supply chain for every company, especially the technology company. Logistics includes the transportation, storage and inventory. For the transportation, air appropriate for lighter, smaller, and higher priority items. It is the fastest mode of transportation. On the contrast, water transportation is extremely slow and let the products suffer damage easily. Most of technology products have high value and cost. In addition, the customer demand increase rapidly when the new product launched, especially the holidays. Therefore, in order to satisfy customers demand at first time, Apple orders products by air instead of sea. This is because shipping products by ship takes a lot compared to airfreight. Shipping by air has another advantages that it is safer than water. When the package was broken and leaking the seawater, the products will be damaged totally. In this particular case, Apple will suffer great losses. If customers have ordered the product online, Apple need to give them an account why the deliver time has been delayed. So air transportation is the best choice. In addition, Apple had a reverse logistics system, including the management of warranty claims, trade-ins and Apples recycle and reuse program. The reverse logistics system contributed to Apples success. Not only saving the cost, but also improving the customer service experience. Traditionally, when customers intend to return a product, they should have to bring the receipt back to Apple store. The employees would take the item and issue a refund. Then hold the defective item until delivered back to the manufacturer. In order to make sure the purchase details, Apple allowed customers to enter data about the defect on the Apple website and he each products serial number. After that, Apple would send email to customers within half a day to let them know if the product sill under warranty and the information about return. After these steps complete, the box with addressed and stamped would send to customers by express parcel service. Of course, the shipping label and receipt for the return were in the box. Apple would ask the UPS, Feeder or DEL to pick up the package. Through this reverse logistics system, Apple has improved the customer satisfaction and eliminated the likelihood of customer error when processing a return (Mark, 2014). The storage and inventory management are key elements to Apples success. The storage for Apple is spacious and safer cause Apple products have high value that need security measures to protect. In addition, the storage of Apple has monitoring system. The manager can control the inventory through the camera. Apple has much storage distribute in different countries and cities. The inventory is another essential parts. If asked, what has made Apple an iconic brand, the answers would be its innovations and sleek design. Almost everyone would forget another important factor that has helped in catapulting Apple eight to the top, which is its properly managed inventory. According to an article, Apple averages Just 5. 3 days worth of inventory on hand at any given time, which means that every five days, Apple needs to replenish its inventory to prevent out of stock. For Apple Inc. , why is it so important to keep as little inventory on hand as possible? The reason is that company needs spent too much money to store products in their warehouses everyday. The company need budget for inventory. In addition, with the technology always improving, high -tech manufactures cant afford to keep o many products in stock. That because if an announcement from a competitor or a new innovation will change everything suddenly, the company have no time to deal with the inventory, so the value of their products will be decreased and the company will under much pressure. Therefore, remaining flexible is so important for companies (Clara, 2014). As we know, Apple has plenty of customers and need huge numbers of products, however, instead of keep too much inventory, Apple intend to short its inventory. Apple realized that control over their inventory is necessary. It is also the secret to Apples success. Theyve discovered the best way to control costs and meet their customers needs that is to find the right balance of inventory in locations across the country and the world. After realized this situation, Apple build many locations to balance the inventory. Thus, Apple increased the inventory turnover by decreasing average inventory. If Apple keep more stocks, these are more likely to be obsolete or damaged. In addition, due to Apples product life cycle is longer than seasonal items, so that Apple is not easily affected by seasonal factors. After the inventory management, the distribution and customer service also important for Apple supply chain management issues. We know that Apple relied on intermediate warehouses at UPS and Feeder and had its own warehouses in California. Apple had to make sure it has many sales outlets, includes online stores, retail stores, direct sales force, wholesalers and retail network. They need to manage the product stock according to the demand forecast (Mark, 2014). Forecasting is necessary tool to Apple. The forecasting method can help Apple keep inventory balance in order to reduce risk of out of stock or excess inventory. For the customer service, the company had a reverse logistics system as well. It includes encompassing the management of warranty claims, trade-ins and Apples recycle and reuse program. Managing reverse logistics effectively contributed to Apples success, both on a cost level and on a customer service experience level (Mark, 2014). We are familiar with Apple customer service. It has 30 warranty that if the products has some problems, customer need to bring the receipt to Apple store and exchange new one. Besides, after Apples new product launched, customers can add a little money o trade-ins. That is a good deal for Apple fans. Through its reverse logistics, the customer service system become integral and rapidly. Apple has improved customer satisfaction, and lowered the number of calls to its technical support services. In addition, it has eliminated the likelihood of customer error when processing a return. For example, using an incorrect address. Apple focuses on every part of its logistics system. It was monitoring every handcuff point -? loading dock, airport, truck depot and distribution center -? to make sure each unit was accounted for (Mark, 2014). Apple has many employees in the retail store in order to make sure every customer can be serviced. According to many former employees, executives at suppliers, and management experts familiar with the companys operations, Apple has built a closed ecosystem where it exerts control on nearly every piece of the supply chain, from design to retail store. Above all, Apple has considered the security issue and control every part of its supply chain. Through this management, Apple ensured that every part would avoid make mistakes during supply chain process, including transportation, inventory and customer service. Retail ExperienceApple has about 424 retail stores in 16 countries around the world. Additionally Apple stores was available in 39 countries (Mark, 2014). The companys retail stores were typically located at high-traffic locations in quality shopping malls. One of the Apples goals is make sure a high-quality buying experience and attract new customers. The stores were designed to simplify and enhance the explanation and marketing of the companys products and related solutions. In the Apple store, the employees have rich experience and knowledgeable personnel who provided product advice, service ND use other accessories to make presentation to explain or answer customers question (Mark, 2014). Every time I go to the Apple store, I always get intimacy from its employees even I return or exchange products. There is another strategy for Apple to forecast its production and inventory on a daily basis. Apple monitored product sales by store by the hour and it relied on this information to complete this task. Apple Inc. Has a wonderful supply chain management to keep away from the risk. Information Electrification leakage also plays a significant role in supply chain security. When the information of one company is leaking, it will lead to risk issues, such as customer demand decrease; competitor will take place your position and occupy the market. Although Apples supply chain has tight control, the information leaking also happened to Apple Inc. Apple adopted many measures to prevent information leaking. What is different about Apples launch planning is the extreme secrecy attached it. To ensure the secrecy was maintained throughout the assembly process, Apple places electronic monitors in some boxes of components to track them room Apples headquarters in Cupertino (Mark, 2014).

Mistress of Mankind Essays

Mistress of Mankind Essays Mistress of Mankind Essay Mistress of Mankind Essay Alliteration is a formal feature devised by Wilmot, in instances towards the poems end, with the willing womb, mighty mind and mistress of mankind. Wilmot also uses capital letters for words such as Face, Mind and Sense, in the middle of lines. This is a feature, seemingly used to make these particular words stay in the readers mind, being important words. Armitage appears to use a different technique for the same affect by structuring his lines in order to place important words at the end of lines; this can be illustrated by life and blades, both essential parts to the poems depiction, and both at the end of lines. Armitage uses enjambment to connect all his lines, keeping them flowing into each other. This also gives the poem a speech-like affect, as though this is a passing thought inside the poets head. Wilmot uses periphrasis in the line being yours, and yours alone, using more words than necessary in the circumstance. This serves to emphasise this point and also maintains the structure of the poems metrical rhythm. Wilmot in one instance uses a rhetorical question with To damn you to be only mine. Armitage doesnt use this feature, however uses commas in the middle of lines to allow the reader time to pause and perhaps contemplate. The line the doctor said, for eternity demonstrates this point. John Wilmot uses metaphorical words, unlike Armitage. Seed receiving earth is a natural metaphor he deploys for effect. He also uses grandiose language, demonstrated in Universal Influence. Armitage is far from grandiose, with the whole poem simplistic and clear of what is being said. Personification is used by the John Wilmot also when he describes the willing womb, as though it is alive in itself. Armitage uses no imagery, he explains the events as they happened, also exploring reasons for the actions which are described. Both poems develop progressively in their 3 stanzas. Wilmot firstly discusses his feelings upon his mistress; he then goes on to widen his thoughts onto all women by saying Spirits of your Sex. At the end of the second stanza he begins talking in an even more grandiose fashion, continuing this into the last by saying Mistress of Mankind. Armitage uses a similar technique in allowing the poem to develop stanza by stanza, allowing the poem to be sectioned into certain parts. He begins with his thoughts on an event, then explaining the consequences, and in the final stanza explains his actions in order to complete the sequence. Armitage and Wilmot, use this to structure their poems into divisions to be recognised by the reader. In conclusion both Wilmot and Armitage in the poems discussed employ several formal features. These include repetition, sound patterning, different rhyme forms, stress on certain syllables to create particular metres and alliteration. Formal features are devised to provide meaning, acoustic effects and aesthetic effects to the poems.

Media Creates Political and Ideological Controversies Essay

Media Creates Political and Ideological Controversies - Essay Example Audiences are seen to be susceptible to any message or information that is presented by the media. As per Lowery and DeFleur’s theory media has an immense impact on its viewers. This theory endorses great power and influence on the media. Although later research disproved this theory, it was evident through the findings (Hyman & Sheatsley 1947) that audiences were not brainless recipients of information and formed their own opinions of media’s projections of news and events. But fact remains that even though media coverage may not be able to completely form a public’s opinion on just one front, it is responsible for how they view the world. This is where the agenda-setting theory of mass communication comes in. while the media may not be able to tell us exactly how we should think, it does specify what we should think about. â€Å"The agenda-setting theory was originally developed to explain the influence of the mass media in determining which political issues become important in elections. Adroit committee members and politicians claim that if you can control the agenda you can control the meeting.† (Sutherland & Sylvester 2000). Basically, the most crucial function of media is to act as a gateway between the public and the government. It’s the media who provide information regarding political matters and matters regarding policy and governance. Newspapers aim to cover politics and issues related to politics follow the guidelines that journalists must remain â€Å"politically correct† and neutral and â€Å"present† covering all sides of the argument (Sloan & Mackay 2007) Research has shown that most media slant is focused on coverage related to political and election campaigns, where media needs to influence the general public. But very few researches have been done to check why the media slant is involved in such  specific issues such as â€Å"immigration† and why is it covered by â€Å"negatively† slanted media coverage.
